Happy Labor Day! I hope all of you are able to enjoy this long weekend and have today off to rest and relax.
And possibly get some crafting time in, too.

I wanted to share what I got to make this weekend. It almost became a FAIL, but I believe it was salvaged pretty well.

Here’s how I did it.

uglywoodsigns princesszwoodsigntakeover
Purchased 2 not so pretty wood signs at Goodwill for .99 each. I picked these up because I loved the texture of them. They’ve got valleys and ridges. I got 2 because I knew Princess Z wouldn’t let me work alone.

Several coats of acrylic craft paint. I think it took about 3 coats for complete coverage. I cut some vinyl on my Silhouette SD using my Silhouette brand vinyl because I didn’t want to use up my good Oracal vinyl. I really wanted to make a vinyl sign, but the ridges on this wood sign wouldn’t allow for the vinyl to stick very well. So, I made a stencil instead. And honestly, the stencil worked out better than I could have imagined. I weeded out the actual letters and transferred the vinyl stencil to the wood sign.

{Don’tcha love my paint drop-cloth tablecloth I use? It really comes in handy.}
I pounced white paint over the stencil. I knew that the vinyl wouldn’t stick to the valleys of the sign, so I pounced the paint to avoid seepage. Guess what. There was major seepage anyway. See? I thought for sure this project was a FAIL. I thought about sanding it but then wondered what it would look like if I glazed over it.

I mixed equal parts black acrylic paint and water and glazed, rubbing off the glaze with a paper towel. It really looked great! I was surprised. Then I realized because I’m too lazy stubborn impatient to measure, that the words were off center of the sign. Oops. FAIL!

Then I remembered my fabric flowers I made a few weeks ago. . .

Attached to the side to balance it out and success!
I’ve been working a few other projects that I’ll be sharing with you later this week! Can’t wait!

Happy Labor Day!
