I’ve always wanted a topiary tree, or 2. But every time I find one {even on sale} they’re too expensive for my taste.
I kept seeing all these talented women in blog-land making their own and so I finally decided to take the plunge. I know most people are so over topiary trees, but here’s my version.

Remember those herb planters I made this summer? Well, let’s not talk about what happened to a few of those herbs. M’kay?
Here’s most of what I used.
acrylic paints
sponge brush & detail paint brush
fake moss from Dollar Tree
2 pots
trusty glue gun
spray adhesive
4 foam balls {2 sizes each, not pictured}
2 square foam pieces {not pictured}
2 dowels {not pictured}
wire ribbon

I watered down about 50/50 white acrylic paint and painted my pots, wiping off the excess some. I love the haphazard look that it created. Because I’m lazy impatient stubborn insane, I decided to hand-paint the numbers directly onto the pots instead of using a stencil. Yup, that’s how I roll.
I added foam blocks inside the pots.
Mr. Scout helped me spray the foam balls and add the green moss to them. We were having so much fun that I forgot to take pictures. It was easy. Messy! But all we did was spray the balls in section and push the moss onto them. We used the loose moss pieces to cover bare spots. Our hands were mossy when we were done.
Then we slid the balls onto the dowels which I painted black.
We cut the dowels down. Added some moss to the foam squares with my hot glue gun. And for a little fall festiveness, I added a wire ribbon to the trees.
I was going to make bows, but it looked a little weird, so I draped the wire ribbon, like a Christmas tree.
I’ve got them sitting by my front door now, but I may move them. I figure I can keep adding ribbon or other details to them each season/holiday to keep it looking fresh. I like my new topiary trees and plan on using them everywhere.
Now I’ve got to finish my fall wreath! What fall projects are you working on?

Topiaries are kinda timeless, aren’t they?
My free-hand painting of the numbers on the pots aren’t great, but it suits me and my style.
I plan on coming back tomorrow and looking through your links. I haven’t had time today – but you’re up to something like 50?! That’s AWESOME!!! So excited for you!
I really like your topiaries. Definitely not a fail!

Hi, Great work! Topiaries scare me (making topiaries that it) so I really appreciate the tute. Thanks for sharing it at A Crafty Soiree…I’m your 99th follower!
Thanks, Jerri.
I love the owl earrings you posted, too. Very cute!!!
Have a wonderful weekend!
Hi Malia! Thank you so much for stopping by and being my awesome 99th follower!
How cool!!!
You should totally make your own topiary – it was easy. I was kinda scared of it too, but it was definitely easier than I thought it was going to be. I had read horror stories about hot glue gun burns, that’s why I used the spray adhesive. And it worked! Better than a multitude of hot glue gun burns…
Have a wonderful weekend and thanks so much for being #99! It’s a great number!
